Audioblog: The Dead Normality – Order 227

I like metal music. Moreover I like metal bands who write songs about war related topics. I was the singer in a band called The Dead Normality and the last song we ever recorded is called Order 227. This song was inspired by the infamous Order No. 227 issued by the Soviet High Command and signed by Joseph Stalin on the 28th of July 1942.

English translation of Order No. 227

Order 227

Betrayers of the Motherland sent to certain death
Retreat without orders, attempting surrender
To redeem their sins their blood runs cold
Deserters, defeatists must be shot on site

Ni Shagu Nazad! Not one step back!

Penal battalions are formed to restore morale
Do not dare to fail to show resolve in combat
Barrier troops meet panic with desperate measures
Advance or face annihilation, it’s kill or be killed

The Red tide, not one step back!
The Red pride, fight till death

To survive as a nation anything goes
The right to life, denied by friend and foe
Human wave attacks prove suicide runs
Unauthorized withdrawal ends with rear guarded murder

The Red tide, not one step back!
The Red pride, fight till death

Order 227

There are no prisoners of war, only discouraging traitors
Breach of order and discipline leads to execution or Gulag

Ni Shagu Nazad!

The Red tide, not one step back!
The Red pride, fight till death

Betrayers of the Motherland, the cowards running east
A choice between death by German or Soviet hands
Erase the shame, exterminate in place
No surrender, take revenge and destroy the enemy
